Telkwa Receives 'Towns for Tomorrow' Grant

The Hankin Corner Highway 16 Overpass and Water Upgrades project in Telkwa will be possible thanks to $399,760 in funding from the provincial government's Towns for Tomorrow program.

The funding will allow the village to perform upgrades to their water and stormwater infrastructure in the area of Highway 16 and Hankin Street.

The area is currently the subject of major works being undertaken by the Ministry of Transportation and represents an opportunity for the village to access and replace/repair the water and stormwater systems.

The Towns for Tomorrow program is providing $21 million, over three years, to assist communities with a population of 5,000 or less with community infrastructure improvements. Under the program's cost sharing formula, the Province will provide up to 80 per cent of eligible costs, for projects up to $500,000.

The funding announcement was made July 23 by Bulkley Valley-Stikine MLA Dennis MacKAY.
