Development of the Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre in Port Hardy is now possible, thanks to $80,000 in funding from the provincial government’s Towns for Tomorrow program.
The project will replace the existing Quatse River Hatchery with a nearly 400-square metre, energy efficient Salmon Stewardship Centre.
The centre will include two laboratories, handicap-accessible washrooms, meeting and classroom space, offices, storage and utility space.
The new facility will serve as a focus for public education and stewardship activities relating to pacific salmon.
The funding announcement was made Sept. 17 by Tourism, Sports and the Arts Minister and Comox Valley MLA Stan Hagen.
