Towns for Tomorrow
Province Provides $356,000 for Bridge Replacement in Lumby

The Village of Lumby is benefiting from $356,000 in Towns for Tomorrow funding that will be used to replace the Shuswap Avenue Bridge, helping to create a more sustainable and accessible community.

This project will replace the Shuswap Avenue Bridge which is subject to flooding, is in poor condition and connects the townsite of Lumby to vital community assets such as the industrial park and fire hall, and to family homes in the nearby rural residential area.

The Towns for Tomorrow program is investing $71 million over five years to help small municipalities enhance community infrastructure and create legacies for the future. Projects eligible for funding include: water quality and energy improvements; enhancement of protective and emergency infrastructure services; and development of recreation, tourism or cultural amenities with long-term benefits for local residents.

Okanagan-Vernon MLA and Minister of Children and Family Development Tom Christensen announced the funding September 22, 2008.
