Towns for Tomorrow
Province Funds Highlands Hall and Museum

The District of Highlands will benefit from $400,000 in Towns for Tomorrow funding for the construction of a new community hall and museum built with leading-edge green building principles.

The community centre will be built using green building principles, and will allow residents to participate in sports and fitness activities, public meetings, as well as heritage, cultural and social activities. This is intended to help cut down on greenhouse gas emissions associated with travelling to facilities outside of the community.

In addition, an existing building adjacent to Caleb Pike Heritage Park will be upgraded to a small museum. Trails will be constructed through a wooded area to a wetland, and outdoor community meeting areas will be developed.

Ida Chong, Minister of Technology, Trade and Economic Development, announced the funding August 18, 2008.
