East Kootenay MLA Bill Bennett presents Towns for Tomorrow cheque to Elkford Mayor Dean McKerracher.

The District of Elkford will receive $185,496 from the provincial government’s Towns for Tomorrow program to replace a sewer line in Riverview Park.

The project will replace a PVC sewer line that was improperly abandoned and capped, causing overflows at the nearby lift station because of a high water table and heavy rain.

This project will help protect the adjacent Elk River, an important fish bearing river, as well as the community’s drinking water source which serves 2,700 people.

The announcement was made Aug. 23 by East Kootenay MLA Bill Bennett.
