The Province is investing more than $200,000 to help the Central Coast Regional District build the Thorsen Creek Waste/Recycling Centre, enabling the district to prolong the useful life of the landfill site by diverting waste through a diversified recycling program.
The $201,920 in Towns for Tomorrow funding will help construct a building for equipment storage, and for washing, sorting and preparing recyclables for market. Another building will be used to store the recyclables prior to shipping, while a multi-material baler will help prepare and transport materials for market. The project will also install one kilometre of powerlines and water lines.
Blair Lekstrom, Minister of Community Development, made the funding announcement September 9, 2008.
